Bill Belichick’s defense will not change in 2018, but there are a few new wrinkles
Bill Belichick will not be able to rely on his defense in 2018 because of the new collective bargaining agreement, which will allow him to add some veterans to help it.
Belichick has a group of veteran players under contract and the Patriots are expected to sign one or more.
But the Patriots have several players under guaranteed salaries, including defensive end Stephon Tuitt, cornerback Stephon Gilmore and linebacker Logan Ryan.
It is also unclear what the Patriots will do with cornerback Marcus Williams.
There is a lot of speculation that Williams will not play again in 2018 due to his contract, but he has not yet ruled out his return.
A lot of teams are already trying to find ways to improve their defense.
It would be a good time for the Patriots to add a few veterans to a group that already has some.
It could be a surprise if the Patriots do not get a defensive tackle or safety, but the Patriots should be able at least one of the above.
