‘The Dark Tower’: Stephen King on what it was like writing The Dark Tower: The Final Chapter
Stephen King has revealed what it’s like writing his third book, and why he thinks he’s finally written the one that could become the best film adaptation of his work.
Speaking to EW, King said that he was really excited when he read the first draft of The Dark Times in 2011, and that he and his editor, Christopher L. Bennett, spent a lot of time on the book together, because it was so much fun.
But the next thing that happened was that Bennett left the project, and it was all downhill from there.
“We were sitting at a conference table in Chicago, and I think I was going, ‘Oh, that’s a really good idea.
Let’s just try it,'” King said.
“It’s the first time in my life that I’ve been like, ‘Okay, this is what I want to do.'”
But there’s no guarantee that the Dark Tower will be a hit.
After all, it took seven years and six books to become the biggest film franchise of all time, and Warner Bros. has already announced that it won’t release the first movie in the franchise until 2021.
But King told EW that he’s not looking to stop there.”[The Dark Times] was really, really fun.
I enjoyed writing it,” he said.
“[It’s] so much bigger than The Dark Towers story.”
And it’s not like he’s worried about the movie being too dark.
“The Dark Towers is not the Dark Times.
It’s not going to be the Dark Towers.
There’s going to have to be a lot more light and a lot less darkness in it.””
The Darkest Places” stars Idris Elba as a man who gets trapped in the tower, and Woody Harrelson as the villain, the Shadow King.
