Wife of murdered man’s ex-wife ‘would not be in this position if he had not been shot’
Two months after his wife was murdered, Kelly Slater has told the ABC she wants to know why her ex-husband, who she described as a “bitch” and “creep” would shoot him dead.
Ms Slater was at the wheel of a car that Mr Slater’s wife, Sarah, was in when she was killed in December last year.
“She would not be here, would not have been able to help him, would never have been the person he was in a relationship with,” Ms Slater said.
“If he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and someone had gone and shot him, she would not still be alive today.”
In her first interview since the killing, Ms Slater spoke about her anger towards Mr Slater after the incident and how she and her husband are still “sick”.
Ms Slater, who is now divorced from Mr Slater, said her ex had been a “creeping creep” who she felt was using the incident to gain revenge.
“It’s a very strange feeling because you feel like there’s something wrong with you, that there’s a problem with you,” Ms Slater said.
She said she believed Mr Slater had planned the murder and that she did not believe her ex was trying to “suck my blood”.
She also said she feared for the safety of her children, who were at school with their father.
Ms Slaters husband, Nick, is a teacher.
In the ABC interview, Ms Slateson said her husband had a history of mental illness.
“He’s a guy that was very violent, he was a really bad person, he would hurt you with his fists,” Ms Lyon said.
Ms Lyon also said Ms Slater would never let her children be around Mr Slater and they had spoken about their fears of what might happen to them if their father died.
“I think they’re scared that they’re going to be the ones who have to go and pick up the pieces,” she said.
The two have been estranged since the murder.
Ms Bailey, Ms Lyon and Mr Slater were driving through the suburbs on the day Ms Slater and Mr Lyon were killed.
“My husband would not drive, he didn’t want to be alone,” Ms Bailey said.
“[My ex] was trying so hard to get him to stop driving, he wanted to stop being alone with his life.”
Ms Bailey described her ex as “disgusting” and said she was scared of what would happen if her children were in the car.
Ms Lyons and Mr Slaters daughters had recently moved to Sydney from Queensland.
Ms Lindsay said she and Ms Bailey had had a “very long” relationship.
“We’ve been together for over 25 years, we’ve been through divorce.
It’s a long relationship,” Ms Lindsay told the program.
Ms Lindsay and Mr Lindsay are now in separate locations.”
But I think that what Kelly is asking me is what are you going to say to your kids, what are your feelings towards Kelly Slater, what is Kelly doing that you don’t think is appropriate?”
