WILHELMINA SLATERS BACK IN EUROPE
WILHEMINA slater centre, bojana slaters, switzerland: Switzerland has said it will not take any action against the Netherlands following the arrest of the Dutch tennis star, who has been charged with corruption.
Switzerland’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that it would not pursue charges against the Dutch player, who is in the midst of a two-year suspension from the Swiss tennis team after his arrest in Switzerland.
“The Swiss authorities have made it clear that the case has been thoroughly investigated,” the statement said.
“We have concluded that there are no grounds for any further action.”
Swiss media have reported that Swiss prosecutors will seek to charge the player with fraud and breach of trust, though the exact details of the charges have not been disclosed.
Dutch media say that the two-time Wimbledon champion is accused of accepting a bribe of about 3 million Swiss francs ($3.5 million) in 2012.
Swiss tennis authorities say that Slater, 35, was arrested at his home in the Swiss capital Bern last month and is now being held in an undisclosed location.
He is accused by Swiss prosecutors of accepting bribes of up to 50 million Swiss Francs ($54 million) between January 1, 2013, and January 1 this year, according to Swiss media.
